PURPOSE:To simplify a peripheral circuit by changing the polarity of a voltage applied to a scanning side electrode with regard to each picture element part and applying a voltage whose waveform is symmetrical to each picture element. CONSTITUTION:Two kinds of voltages whose absolute values and waveforms are equal and whose polarities are different are used as driving voltages of scanning side and signal side stripe-like electrode groups. When the scanning side electrode group is driven, a voltage of positive or negative polarity generated from a power source 4 or 5 is applied only tone electrode being in the course of scanning and the other electrode becomes a floating state, and when the signal side electrode group is driven, a voltage whose polarity is opposite to that of the scanning side electrode, and a voltage whose polarity is the same as that of the scanning side electrode are applied from a power source 2 or 3 to the signal side electrode which is connected to a selection picture element part of an EL light emitting layer in an EL panel I, and the signal side electrode which is connected to a non-selection picture element part, respectively, and by changing the polarity of the voltage applied to the scanning side electrode with regard to each picture element, a voltage whose waveform is symmetrical is applied to each picture element part. In such a way, since a completely symmetrical voltage can be applied to the picture element part, a peripheral circuit can be simplified. |
