The invention relates to a method and a device for removing the corks from bottles and recorking them. According to the invention, a cork which has been pulled is inserted into a surface configuration which delimits the radial extent of the cork and takes the form of a hollow cylinder. In order to permit recorking, this surface configuration is made to adopt a position which is axially aligned with the mouth of the bottleneck and the cork is pressed out of this position into the bottleneck. The reactions necessary can be carried out with simple means in a simple fashion.
