Surgical instrument for laser surgery

The aim is to improve a surgical instrument for laser surgery, having a coating which absorbs laser radiation and comprises substoichiometric titanium dioxide (TiO2-x), in two respects: firstly the absorption of laser radiation, and secondly the service life of the instrument even when the absorption of radiation is high. To achieve this aim it is proposed that the coating be composed completely of substoichiometric TiO2-x and that a metallic intermediate layer of good thermal conductivity be arranged between the TiO2-x coating and the instrument.
