The invention relates to a fast image-searching device for video tapes, it being intended for the tape to be subjected to less wear than in the past and likewise for separate pick-up heads to be avoided. According to the invention, only one half of the video tape is stretched over a movable, flexibly mounted supporting arrangement and brought to bear against a signal pick-up head, without the pick-up head drum being wrapped around by the video tape for normal picture reproduction. Furthermore, a cam control device with a crank-rocker linkage is provided, in order to ensure the tensioning and bringing-to-bear movement for the magnetic tape. The invention can be used for video tape recording and reproducing apparatuses.
