PURPOSE:To obtain the title refractory improved in resistance to fire and heat shock, for radioactive liquid waste-solidifying treatment by incorporating a raw material powder comprising chromium oxide, rare earth metal oxide and specific metallic oxide with a sintering aid followed by forming and sintering. CONSTITUTION:A raw material powder comprising (1) 30-50wt.% of chromium oxide, (2) respective oxide(s) of at least one kind of rare earth element selected e.g. from Y, La, Ce, Eu and (3) 10-65wt.% of at least on kind of oxides selected from magnesium oxide, zirconium oxide and aluminum oxide is incorporated with a small amount of sintering aid, e.g. 1-2wt.% of SiO2 or 1-3wt.% of TiO2 followed by forming and sintering, thus obtaining the objective refractory. To produce this refractory, mixed powder of the above-mentioned composition is granulated using a spray dryer or rolling granular and formed through a rubber press or conventional mechanical press technique followed by drying and sintering at 1,550-1,700 deg.C. |
