The at least three-component magnetic material has at least one element (R or M, respectively) each from the group of the rare earths and from the iron group. According to the invention, the material should contain, at least in part, a phase of an intermetallic compound which at least approximately has the composition R6M11Ga3 (R = rare earth including La; M = Fe, Co, Ni). This material can be produced, in particular, by a prealloy first being produced from the components (R, N, Ga) in the desired concentration ratio, followed by there being formed, from the melt of said prealloy and using a rapid-solidification technique, a finely crystalline or amorphous product containing the R6M11Ga3 phase. <IMAGE>
