A stand for receiving a christmas tree, parasol, spoked clothes dryer, towel holder or similar object to be held in the upright position, having a base part and a holding part capable of moving relative to the base part and of being secured with respect to the base part and intended for receiving the free end of the object, a base part being constructed in the form of a pot and comprising a corresponding loose cover part which has an eccentrically arranged through-opening for receiving the holding part, which is conically constructed and engages by its pointed end into a bearing arranged on the facing bottom of the base part likewise eccentrically, with the same eccentricity as the said through-opening; see Fig. 1. <IMAGE>
