The invention relates to a condenser for vapour-containing fluid flows such as water vapours or combustion exhaust gases, having a housing, a fluid inlet, a condensate receiver (collecting chamber), a condensate compartment, and having an inlet and an outlet for a cooling agent (coolant) which is guided inside the housing through heat exchange tubes. According to the invention, the condenser is characterised in that the fluid inlet (4) is arranged in the lower part of the vertical housing (1, 2, 3), in that the fluid inlet (4) is open towards a fluid distribution chamber (12) which is constructed at least in its upper part as a filter tube (11) and is aligned coaxially with the vertical longitudinal axis of the housing (1, 2, 3), in that the fluid distribution chamber (12) is sealed tight at the top by a cover (13), in that the fluid distribution chamber (12) is surrounded by a coaxial condensation chamber (14) through which the heat exchange tubes (9) for the cooling agent are guided, in that the condensation chamber (14) is largely closed at the top and is open towards a vapour collecting chamber (vapour header) (16) connected, to a vapour exhaust line (15), only in the region of the housing casing (1), and in that the condensate drain line (6) is provided with a device (21) for maintaining a condensate level in the condensate receiver (5). <IMAGE>
