They consist in breaking up the webs which connect the shaft 5 proper with its corresponding cranks 7 into two parts embodied as individual pieces 8 and 9 connected together via guide bars 10, the piece 8 of each web being integral with the shaft 5 whilst the piece 9 is integral with the crank 7 and the latter being controlled in terms of position by a plate 11 mounted in a markedly eccentric arrangement on the shaft 5 but secured to the support 6 so that the eccentricity of this plate, with which the piece 9 is indirectly associated, alternately gives rise to the moving apart and moving together of the piece 9 and the shaft 5 and the consequent effective lengthening and shortening of the web, so that the length of the latter is maximum during the application of the force of the piston to the crankshaft and minimum during the return of said piston. <IMAGE>
