PURPOSE:To obtain the title fine granules of high coercive force by coating iron oxyhydroxide or iron oxide fine granules with a copper compound or manganese compound followed by contact with a carbon-contg. reducing agent. CONSTITUTION:Iron oxyhydroxide or iron oxide fine granules are coated with a copper compound and/or manganese compound followed by contact or no contact with a carbon-free reducing agent and then contact with a carbon-contg. reducing agent or its mixture with a carbon-free reducing agent, thus obtaining the objective fine granules on which at least one kind of metallic compound selected from copper compounds and manganese compounds is coated. The amount of said metallic compound to be coated is pref. 0.01-10wt% on a metallic element basis, of the iron carbide calculated as Fe2O3.
