PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF 1-OLEFIN POLYMERS

A highly effective catalyst system for the polymerisation of 1-olefins comprises an aluminoxane and a hafnocene, which is the compound of the formula I in which R<1> and R<2> are hydrogen atoms, halogen atoms or hydrocarbon radicals, and R<3> and R<4> are mononuclear or polynuclear hydrocarbon radicals which are able to form a sandwich structure with the central atom and which are connected to one another via a single- or multimembered or heteroatom-containing bridge -R<6>m-R<5>-R<7>n-. The catalyst system gives polymers of high molecular weight and moderate to broad molecular weight distribution. The width of this molecular weight distribution can be varied by means of the polymerisation temperature.
