The keyboard unit (1) includes three main parts, i.e. a keyboard (2), a control (3) and an encrypting and key unit (4). The keyboard incorporates a number of buttons (5), e.g. 10 numeral buttons and two others. The control has a connection (9) with the keyboard, and an external encrypted connection (8) with a computer. It also has a connector (6) between it and the encrypting and key unit. - A personal identity number can be fed in via the keyboard buttons and is transmitted to the control via the appropriate connection, for re-transmission to the encrypting and key unit via a connection (12) and a connector. In this latter unit, the PIN number is encrypted using stored keys. The encrypted number is then transmitted to an external computer, which verifies whether it is valid. |
