PURPOSE:To detect a rider and a door opening/closing condition with a simple structure by inputting ultrasonic waves reflected by a rider on a seat and a driver's-seat side door into a transducer and detecting the existence of the rider and the opening/closing condition of the door. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic transducer 18 is provided on the inside of the assistant driver's-seat side door of a vehicle to radiate ultrasonic waves toward the assistant driver's seat, a driver' seat, and a driver's seat-side door. Ultrasonic signals reflected from a rider on each seat and the driver's-seat side door exist ing within the range of the directivity of the ultrasonic wave signals are inputted into the transducer 18 and, based on the electric signal thereof, a controller 19 detects the existence of a rider on the assistant driver's seat or the driver's seat and the opening/closing conditions of the driver's-seat side and assistant driver's-seat side doors. Thereby, a rider detecting device can be installed simply in a short time irrespective of a new vehicle or a vehicle in use, enabling the detection of riders and any intruder, etc. |
