PURPOSE:To obtain an antiretrovirus agent, containing a substance LZ-8, derived from mycelia of the genus Ganoderma and having immunosuppressive activity and specific physico-chemical properties without agglutinating human erythrocytes as an active ingredient and useful for inhibiting propagation of cells infected with human retroviruses, etc. CONSTITUTION:A substance LZ-8 (e.g., FERM P-1826), derived from mycelia of the genus Ganoderma and having physico-chemical properties of (a) 16000-18000 molecular weight measured by a sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) gel electrophoretic method and 12000-16000 measured by a Tricine SDS gel electrophoretic method, (b) 0.3-1.8% sugar content based on protein content and (c) mannose, galactose and hexosamine as constituent sugars with immunosuppressive activity without agglutinating human erythrocytes as an active ingredient. The above-mentioned active ingredient can be utilized for treating human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) and human T-leukemia virus-I (HTLV-I) (AIDS virus and adult T cell leukemia virus). |
