A device for the releasable bracing, in particular for clamping, the piston rod (12) of a piston/cylinder arrangement (10, 11) has a bracing element (16) which, when it is shortened in its axial length, effects a bracing of the piston rod within a cylinder bore. Within said cylinder bore (13/15), a clamping piston (18) is guided such that it can be displaced back and forth in a sealed manner. Said clamping piston (18) can be pressed, by means of a spring arrangement (28), in the direction in which the bracing element (16) is braced. In order to release the bracing element, the clamping piston (18) is supplied with pressure fluid which forces the clamping piston, counter to the pressure of the spring arrangement (28), in the direction in which the bracing element is released. <IMAGE>
