Spaced filter tip elements 14, Fig. 3, or cigarettes and filter tips, held as by suction in grooved fingers 13 of a rotary drum 11 and having connector sheets 14a adhering thereto, are transferred to grooves 12a of a rotary drum 12 under the control of comb-like fingers 23 which are mounted in bodies 15 pivotable under the control of a stationary cam 19 acting on arms 17 of the bodies via rollers 18. The fingers 23 move out to contact the sheets 14a before transfer and remain pressed thereagainst during transfer, afterwards sinking into coacting groove cut-outs to clear the sheets during wrapping. The fingers 13 carry members which temporarily fill the spaces between the elements 14. As shown, applied to a recess filter machine in Fig. 1, multi-length filter tip elements on a drum 2 are cut and spaced twice in succession by knives 3, 4 and guides 5, 6 before delivery to the drum 11 where gummed sheets 14a cut off by a knife 8 are affixed and, after transfer as above, wrapping is effected by a grooved drum 9, the cam 19 having a further rise 26 to cause the fingers 23 to effect subsequent ejection of the wrapped elements from the grooves 15a. In a modification, the grooves 15a are formed in the bodies 15 to rotate therewith. Specification 906,027 is referred to. |
