摘要 870,728. Valves. SATZGER, E. Jan. 16, 1958, No. 1537/58. Class 135. [Also in Groups XIII and XXXII] Steam for heating a railcar passes from a main pipe 1 by way of a condensate receiver 2 to a valve chamber 4, Fig. 3, and when there is cooling of a thermally-expanding tube 13 (through which steam or condensate flows from outlet pipes 11 from heating radiators 8) it brings a rod 14 secured within it to bear on a lever 32, and open a valve 5 so that steam passes to an expansion chamber 6 and through orifices 38 to inlet pipes 7 to the radiators. In order to retain condensate in the radiators when the thermostat rod 14 is suitably set, there are pipes 17 rising to above the radiator from the outlet end of the expansion tube 13 and these pipes may include secondary radiators 18 and may feed condensate to a tank 20, with an overflow 21, for a water closet and for washing. The thermostat is regulated by the application of a key to a square stud 26, Fig. 1, so that by means of a rod 25 and a lever 24 a spindle 22 is turned from its squared end 23, Fig. 3, and a cam surface thereon moves the thermostat rod 14. Such regulation determines the point of condensation of the steam in a radiator 8 which may thus be partly or entirely filled with condensate. A modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), has the outlet 11 from the radiator 8 connected to the thermostat tube 13 at the end nearer the valve 5 and has the rising pipe 17 connected to the tube 13 at the other end, where the regulable abutment of the rod 14 is located. To avoid excess cooling and possible freezing of condensate in the rising pipes 17 under cold conditions, the condensate may be by-passed from the pipes 17 and discharged to atmosphere from a chamber 16 at the end of the tube 13 by way of a spring-loaded drain valve, Fig. 2 (not shown), when the lever 32 (holding open the valve 5) pulls with it a pin 31 and a flanged sleeve 30 which engages and opens the drain valve. Also in Fig. 2 is shown, in the valve chamber 4, a ball valve closed by steam pressure but opened by gravity at very low pressure to drain that chamber, the condensate receiver 2 and main steam pipe 1 to atmosphere. There is a similar gravity-operated ball valve 35 on the expansion chamber 6, normally closed on a drain opening 36 by steam pressure.
