[Also in Division B8] Relates to an arrangement for the hand sorting of leather hides including sorting tables having mechanical means to lift the sorted hides on to a movable transport rack whereby they can be transported to a storage box, the transport rack also having an arrangement for lifting the hides on to a support in the storage box. The hand sorting assembly, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises a table for unsorted leather and two tables for sorted leather. Each sorted leather table comprises two table top parts 1, Figs. 2 and 3, defining a slot between them when horizontal, each pivotable downwards about a fulcrum on legs 2 and held horizontal by propping rod 3 which are pivotably attached to the inner margins of the tops 1. The lower ends of the rods 3 pass slidably through sleeves 4 and are held therein by releasable pins. At one end of the slot is a lifting device comprising a vertical column 6 along which is movable a carriage 8 to which a palette carrier is secured. The carriage is raised by means of a motor 10 through rope 12. Upper and lower limit switches 9a, 9b, also a reversing switch 9c are provided. Initially the carriage reposes in and substantially occupies the slot area. A palette 17, which is removably supported on the carrier, has integral therewith two spaced apart transverse strips for locating on pins 22, Fig. 4, of a transport rack trestle 21. The transport rack comprises a wheeled undercarriage 14 supporting two hollow columns 18 inside of which columns 23 are movable by means of lever 25 and a rope 24 whereby the trestle can be raised or lowered. A hide storage box designed to co-operate with the carrying trestle is described (Fig. 6, not shown). In operation sorted hides on the table are lifted on the palette 17 by the palette carrier, the transport rack is then wheeled into the space between the table top parts and being guided by the rollers 16 co-operating with a guide rail 13 under the table. The table top parts are swung downwards and the palette carrier is lowered, the holes in the palette straps engaging the pins 22 on the trestle so that when rack is pulled away from the table the palette and hides come with it and may be transported to the storage unit, Fig. 6 (not shown). |
