<p>An assembly for determining the longitudinal displacement of a rotating shaft, which incorporates a shaft displacement detector comprises: - a detector means; and - at least one detectable section provided in relation to the shaft, and which can be detected by the detector means; wherein the detected property or properties of the detectable section vary dependent upon the longitudinal displacement of the shaft.
