摘要 <p>Mechanical breaking up of small batteries essentially only cracks open the metal cladding. The broken up material is treated at from 300 to 600 DEG C with agitation under non-oxidising conditions, and the volatile mercury is recovered from the offgas. The roasted material is separated into coarse, middle and fine fractions by screening, and the coarse fraction is removed as iron-containing waste fraction. The middle fraction is subjected to magnetic separation, and the magnetic fraction is removed as iron-containing waste fraction. The nonmagnetic fraction is comminuted mechanically and screened, and the coarser fraction is removed as brass-containing waste fraction. The finer fraction and the fine fraction are mixed by stirring to give an aqueous sludge having a pH of from 7 to 8, the sludge is subjected to wet magnetic separation, and the magnetic fraction is removed as iron-containing waste fraction. The nonmagnetic fraction is treated at from 1000 to 1150 DEG C with agitation under non-oxidising conditions, and a zinc-containing fraction is separated from the offgas and removed. The residue is removed as manganese-containing fraction.</p>
