PURPOSE:To prevent display color in an observing position from being distorted and to achieve a wide-angle, high brightness flash display by setting the horizontal dimension of a light emitting diode longer than its vertical dimension when said diode is positioned in a normal viewing condition. CONSTITUTION:In a normal viewing condition, the horizontal dimension of the light emitting diode is longer than its vertical dimension, and its orientation characteristic in emitting light spreads wider in the horizontal direction than in the vertical direction. A lump of plural light emitting diodes composes a display dot. The red light emitting diode DR and the green light emitting diode DG are formed elliptically in horizontal direction. With respect to their light outputted in the vertical direction, their orientation characteristic, that is, orientation angle theta1 becomes narrower, as arrows RO1 and RO2 show. In the case of the horizontal direction, a wider orientation characteristic can be obtained, that is, orientation angle is theta0. Since the vertical dimensions of the red and green light emitting diodes DR and DG are smaller, a packaging dimension as a display dot can be shortened even if they are added. Thus, display color is not distorted in an observing position, and a desired light intensity and a desired orientation characteristic can be obtained. |
