<p>PURPOSE:To eliminate the variation of a characteristic caused by an oriented state and to obtain the high speed responsiveness by providing a means for setting forcibly a liquid crystal molecular orientation of a liquid crystal part which can be driven to one of a stable or metastable oriented state at the time of switching off. CONSTITUTION:At the time of switching off the element, a liquid crystal molecular orientation of a liquid crystal part which can be driven is set forcibly to one of at least two stable or metastable oriented states. That is, the switch is set to three stages of ON-READY-OFF, and when it is in a READY state, a driving circuit part is operated so that the liquid crystal molecule always takes a prescribed orientation. When it is in an OFF state, the driving circuit is set to a non-operating state after an electric field has come not to be applied between the upper and the lower electrodes. In such a way, the characteristic variation caused by an oriented state of a non-driving period is eliminated, and the high speed responsiveness is obtained.</p> |
