A method for the distillative separation of nitrogen and methane from a feed stream comprising nitrogen and methane comprises introducing the feed stream into a distillation, (128); withdrawing (at 136) a column overhead product stream enriched in nitrogen; withdrawing (at 138) a column bottom product stream enriched in methane; d) condensing overhead product in an overhead condenser (132) and recycling condensed overhead product to an upper column portion; and e) introducing a non-polar liquid additive in a minor portion to increase the temperature in the condenser (132).
