An improved mechanical seal using hard non-weldable seal rings (16,24) in which the seal ring (24) is supported by a seal ring (38) flange and in which a GRAFOIL gasket (48) is positioned in an annular recess (58) between the seal ring (16) and the flange (38); the seal ring (16) being held in the flange (38) by means of a retainer ring (52) welded to the flange (38), thereby avoiding the use of interference fits and/or lap fits between the flange (38) and the seal ring (16). |
