Partially fluorinated compounds of formula H2C=CH-Rf-CH2CH2-Y (1) wherein Y is independently selected from the group consisting of -CN, -CH2NH2, -COOH, -CH2OH, -CH2N=C=O, -CONH2, -CHO, -COCl, and -COOR, wherein R is CnH2n+1 and n is an integer from 1 to 10, inclusive; and Rf is a perfluorinated divalent organic radical selected from the group consisting of linear, branched, carbocyclic, and mixtures thereof having from 1 to about 40 carbon atoms and containing from zero to about 20 ether linkages and formula Y min -CH2CH2-Rf-CH2CH2-Y min (2) wherein Y min is independently selected from the group consisting of -CN, -CH2NH2, -CH2OH, -CH2N=C=O, -CONH2, -CHO, -COCl, and -COOR, wherein R is CnH2n+1 and n is an integer from 1 to 10, inclusive; and Rf is a perfluorinated divalent organic radical selected from the group consisting of linear, branched, carbocyclic, and mixtures thereof having from 1 to about 40 carbon atoms and containing from zero to about 20 ether linkages, that are useful as chemical intermediates and monomers are disclosed. Partially fluorinated polymers prepared from (2) are also disclosed.
