A method of continuously condensing a vapor component of a gas mixt. supplied to a reflux heat exchanger (40) includes the following steps of: a) introduicng a flow of a cryogenic liquid, having a boiling point below that of the vapor component, directly into the liquid phase in the exchanger to cause chilling; b) stirring the liquid phase substantially to preclude local freezing of the liquid phase, the introduction of the cryogenic liquid creating some of the stirring; c) and removing the chilled liquid from the device and returning a portion of the removed chilled liquid as reflux to the device and into contact with gas mixture thereby to condense the vapor component.
