OPTOELECTRONIC APPARATUS HAVING COUPLING BETWEEN OPTICAL FIBER AND SEMICONDUCTOR LASER DIODE

PURPOSE: To obtain high coupling efficiency with a simple method by fixing laser diode and optical fiber holders after adjusting by means of an intermediate member disposed between these two holders. CONSTITUTION: A semiconductor laser diode 4 is housed into a base 1 which is the holder and an annular sheath 14. The optical fiber 15 to be optically coupled to the diode 4 is housed in the annular holder 16. A sleeve 21 is disposed as the intermediate member between both holders. An annular connecting part 23 which is reduced in its thickness and a flange part 24 made thin toward one side are formed at the sleeve 21. The optical fiber 15 is adjusted axially with respect to the laser diode 4 by such constitution and thereafter, the holder 16 is welded and fixed to the connecting part 23 of the sleeve 21. The optical fiber 15 is then adjusted in a transverse direction and, thereafter, the annular sheath 14 and the flange part 24 of the sleeve 21 are fixed by welding.
