The invention relates to an arc-cutting method, which is characterized in that an arc is struck for an object that is to be flame-cut by means of at least one electrically conductive liquid jet directed at the object to be flame cut, which jet is connected to at least one of the poles of the current source, and that molten metal is removed from the flame-cut object by the kinetic energy of the liquid jet; and an arc-cutting device intended for use with a current source, which is characterized in that the flame cutting device has the means 1, 2 for spraying and directing at least one electrically conductive cutting liquid jet 3 at a cutting object 4, and that at least one pole of the poles 51, 52 of the current source 5 is connected to the flame-cut object 4 by way of at least one cutting liquid jet 3. The invention also relates to the use of a liquid electrolyte, preferably mercury, as a jet for arc cutting in order to strike the arc on a cutting object and for removing molten metal from the cutting object. <IMAGE>
