PURPOSE:To shorten the recording time by varying the driving method of a thermal head in response to a melting ink sheet and a sublimating ink sheet while changing the feed rate of recording paper in conformity with the driving method. CONSTITUTION:A picture signal input terminal is selected automatically or manually, a color picture data is stored in an RGB memory 38, and a thermal head 130 is abutted against a platen 120. The revolution and driving of the platen 120 and the winding of an ink sheet 132 are started, and initial positioning is conducted. The ink sheet 132 is moved until a photosensor 136-1 outputs a detecting signal. A mark 16b is detected by a photosensor 136-2, and the kind of the ink sheet 132 is discriminated. The king of the ink sheet is discriminated on the basis of information stored in the RAM of a CPU 42, a four bit count is indicated by an indicating signal 61 on a melting ink sheet, and the reading data of a conversion memory 52 is used as a data for the melting ink sheet by an indicating signal 53. The indicating signals 53 and 61 for a sublimating ink sheet are output on the sublimating ink sheet. Accordingly, the recording time can be shortened in conformity with the ink sheet employed. |
