A method for applying a composite nickel-oxide coating to a metal carrier provides for pickling the carrier, applying thereto a layer of the coating of a composite material consisting of metallic nickel and nickel-oxide hydroxide, and electrolytic sedimentation from an aqueous solution of dichlorinated nickel having a concentration of 100-130 g/l. The electrolytic sedimentation is carried out under potentiostatic regime, at potentials of (-950)-(-1200)m V in relation to a normal hydrogen electrode and at a temperature of 20-25 DEG C. The nickel-oxide electrode comprises a metallic base and a coating of a composite material consisting of metallic nickel 54-25 nickel-oxide hydroxide 46-75 per cent by volume.
