Electrochemical generator with an alkaline electrolyte and a zinc negative electrode containing 1 to 1000 ppm of at least one stabilising organic compound chosen from polyfluoro compounds of the ethoxylated fluoroalcohol type and compounds of the alkyl sulphide and polyethoxylated alcohol type. The said zinc negative electrode additionally comprises, in the gelled electrolyte, zinc powder free from mercury, cadmium and lead, to which are added at least surface-conductive fibres made of a metal chosen from pure zinc, cadmium, gallium and indium, the said fibres having a length of between 1 and 10 mm, a diameter of between 0.01 mm and 0.5 mm, their content being between 0.5 % and 10 % by weight relative to the zinc.
