The present invention relates to a hammer mill for shredding metal objects, essentially consisting of hammers 1 mounted on a drive drum 2 arranged in a milling enclosure 3 provided with screening walls 4, 5 at the lower part and at the upper part, this enclosure 3 being connected to a feed device 6 provided with crushing drums 7, 8 and a ramp 9 for insertion into the mill, characterised in that the drum 2 for driving the hammers 1 is driven in both directions of rotation, in that the upper screening wall 5 is interchangeable and can move above the milling enclosure 3, in that the walls of the milling enclosure 3 are provided with interchangeable shielding 10 and in that the crushing drums 7, 8 of the feed device 6 are continuously adjustable as regards their mutual position relative to the insertion ramp 9. <IMAGE>
