Primary electrochemical generator with an alkaline electrolyte and a negative zinc electrode, whose positive electrode is based on manganese dioxide, and whose separator comprises at least one woven or unwoven polymeric fibre support, characterised in that the said negative zinc electrode being free from mercury and cadmium, the said support is covered on at least one of its faces with a film made from a material comprising a gelling which is stable in an alkaline medium.
