PURPOSE:To reduce a lowering in the density of transferred images and enable multi-time printing by providing a dye-supplying layer and a layer contributive to transfer, on a base in that order from the base side, superposing an image- receiving sheet on the contributive layer, and transferring a dye from the contributive layer onto the image receiving sheet through sublimation under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:A sublimation-type thermal transfer recording medium comprises a dye-supplying layer 4 comprising a sublimable dye dispersed in a resin binder and a layer 5 contributive to transfer, which layers are provided on a base 1 in that order from the base side. An image-receiving sheet 3 is superposed on the contributive layer 5, and thermal printing is conducted from the recording medium side by a thermal head 6 while the medium and the sheet 3 are fed under the condition of [velocity of sheet]/[velocity of medium]>1, whereby the dye contained in the layer 5 in the printed area is transferred onto the sheet 3 through sublimation. By this method, the sublimable dye is transferred by sublimation from the transfer-contributive layer 5 onto the image-receiving sheet 3 through a free surface, and simultaneously, the layer 5 is supplied with the dye from the dye-supplying layer being a lower layer by diffusion. |
