The rotor is maintained in a fixed position while the case is rigidly mounted to a moving gun turret. Displacment errors between the gyro's rotor (12) and its case (16) generate electrical error signals which are used to drive a servo system maintaing the turret and the gyro rotor in the same alignment. The gyro (10) is mounted in close proximity to a periscope type beam splitter (30), an alignment laser (32), a beam steering mirror (34), an angle detector (36), a corner cube (38) and a modulator (40). The beam splitter includes lower and upper beam splitter cubes (52,56). The difference between the two beam spots is used to drive the beam steering mirror, thus achieving superimposition of the spots.
