<p>A floating cell culture device (10), and methods for using it, which includes means both for growing cells and for buoyancy of the device as a whole. The embodiments of the device generally comprise a generally circular flat membrane (12) encircled by a flotation-imparting rim or ring (16). Biocompatible materials to which cell cultures may adhere may be incorporated in the flat membrane, which materials when present enable cell cultures to grow on the underside of the membrane floating in contact with a body of liquid cell culture medium. The floating cell culture device has utility as a control substrate in the in vitro flexing of cells, and further has utility in the culturing of human keratinocyte layers and migrating cell cultures and associated assays.</p> |
