In an automatic gear-change device in a gearbox, respective gear-change valves are assigned to two adjacent gear ratios. The working-pressure chamber of a gear-change actuating element for the actuation of the frictional gear-change means (clutch or brake) participating in the formation of one gear ratio is connected both to a filling line leading to the gear-change valve assigned to the said gear ratio and to a control-pressure line which can be made to act, at least indirectly, on the gear-change valve of the other gear ratio in such a way as to disconnect the working pressure.
