PURPOSE:To obtain zirconia ceramics having excellent strength, thermal stability, acid resistance, etc., by blending ZrO2 with a small amount of Y2O3 and Al based component and Mg based component having specific molar ratios and sintering the blend at a prescribed temperature under pressure. CONSTITUTION:(A) ZrO2 powder is blended with (B) <=5mol% Y2O3 used as a stabilizer, (C) aluminum based composition (e.g., aluminum chloride) and (D) magnesium based component (e.g., magnesium chloride) so that sum of the component C and component D is 1-30wt.% expressed in terms of oxide and blend molar ratio of the component C/component D is within the ranges of 35-45/65-55, 60-75/40-25 and 85-99/15-1 expressed in terms of oxide. Then the blend powder or preform is subjected to isotropic pressure sintering or monoaxial pressure sintering at 1100-1400 deg.C to provide the zirconia ceramics having high strength. |
