PURPOSE:To perform preparatory selection in levels of small vocabulary and middle vocabulary with a high precision by controlling the recognition system of preparary selection based on the number of registered dictionary words or the total number of words of the recognition object to perform the most proper preparatory selection in accordance with the number of object words. CONSTITUTION:Preparatorily registered register dictionaries are counted to determine a preparatory selection system to be used. That is, when recognition object words are a large vocabulary, a first preparatory selection means 71 is selected to select the system where the processing is performed at a high speed with a relatively low precision; and when they are a small vocabulary, the system is adopted where the precision is high though the processing time is relatively long. In preparatory selection in the next stage, the number of words passing preparatory selection in the preceding stage is counted to determine the preparatory selection system in the next stage in the same manner. Thus, the preparatory selection system is varied in accordance with the number of object words to perform preparatory selection in accordance with the number of recognition words which a device has, and the reliability is improved. |
