<p>This invention relates to the use of derivatives of benzothiazole (BT) as fluorescent substrates. Highly fluorescent derivatives of BT can be converted to non-fluorescent derivatives by the attachment of a chemical moiety to the BT derivative. When the chemical moiety is cleaved or otherwise dissociated from the non-fluorescent derivative, the fluorescence is restored. These benzothiazole derivatives are useful in detecting enzymes or biological ligands.</p> |
