A description is given of an elongated extrudate of a crosslinked polymer for producing articles which can recover their shape under heat, which comprises a core strand (2) which can recover its shape under heat and has a wound, spun, braided or other type of surround composed of at least one strand (3) of a material of high strength at the softening temperature of the core strand (2). The strand (3) or the strands (3) run at an angle of less than 90@, but greater than 0@, with respect to the longitudinal axis of the core strand (2). <IMAGE>
