PURPOSE:To improve adhesion and water resistance of an image forming layer and the like by irradiating a composition hardenable with activated energy beams containing a prepolymer and a polymerization initiator with said beams at 30-100 deg.C to harden it and to form a protective coating layer. CONSTITUTION:The protective coating layer is formed by irradiating the composition hardenable with activated energy beams containing the prepolymer having at least 2 epoxy groups in the molecule and the polymerization initiator, preferably, such as complex onium salts capable of releasing a polymerization initiative Lewis acid upon irradiation, and hardening it with said beams at 30-100 deg.C. As the prepolymer, a combination of each one kind of aromatic epoxy resin, alicyclic epoxy resin, and aliphatic epoxy resin is used, thus permitting the obtained photographic element to be improved in each of adhesion, moisture resistance, and photographic imaging performance. |
