A pointer (1) of an indicating instrument has a deflection surface, which is formed by a wedge partial surface (6) falling at 45 degrees from the pointer upper side, on the rear side of its pointer hub (2). From the ends of this wedge partial surface (6), transition surfaces (8, 9) lead back to the pointer upper side, rising at 45 degrees. A light source (5) is so arranged that light from below is capable of reaching this wedge partial surface (6). <IMAGE>
