1. A safety ski binding for touring and downhill skiing use, comprising at least a hinge member (13) disposed at a forward location of said safety ski binding and mounted for pivoting about an axis (12) extending transversely of the longitudinal direction of the ski (1) and parallel to its top surface in a mounting bracket (2) secured to said ski, and a step plate (15) hingedly connected to said hinge member (13) by a hinge pin (14) extending parallel to said axis (12), the rear end of said step plate (15) carrying a safety heel retainer (19) and being adapted to be locked to said ski (1) in the downhill skiing position, the front end of said step plate (15) carrying a sole retainer (17), said axis (12) of said hinge member (13) being located forwards of said hinge pin (14) in the downhill skiing position, characterized in that in the downhill skiing position said hinge member (13) is locked by a sliding block (7) of U-shaped configuration when viewed from above, the two legs (7a) of said U-shaped being, when viewed in lateral elevation, of bifurcate shape having two finger portions (8, 9) of different lengths, the upper finger portions (8) gripping said hinge pin (14) from above in the touring position, the conversion to the touring position being accomplished by pushing said sliding block (7) forwards and moving said step plate (15) forwards by pivoting said hinge member (13), so that said hinge pin (14) assumes a position forwards of said axis (12) of said hinge member (13), the upwards pivoting range of said hinge member (13) in this position being limited by pushing said sliding block (7) rearwards, and that in a first phase of the touring exercise, as the rear end of said step plate (15) is being raised, the front portion thereof is supported on said axis (12) to be tilted thereabout. |
