The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of metasubstituted fluoro- or alkylbenzene derivatives from fluoro- or alkylbenzenes by treatment with a disilicon derivative, monodesilylation ortho to the disilicon derivative, and functionalisation meta to the monosilicon derivative. It makes it possible to gain access to metasubstituted derivatives from ortho- or para-directing starting compounds.
