PURPOSE:To disconnect the core easily and speedily and to securely make a connection by applying a preliminary tensile force which is larger than the cutting tensile force at the time of cutting each coated optical fiber, then making a flaw for cutting. CONSTITUTION:A coating layer 2 is held by a coating layer holder 8 and the tip end part 1a of the coated optical fibers 1 is clamped by a coated optical fiber clamper 19; and then the clamper 19 is drawn as shown by an arrow A (in the core direction) to apply the preliminary tensile force 10 an coated optical fibers 1..., then released from being clamped. Then tip parts 1a... are clamped by the clamper 19 then flaws for cutting are made in the fibers 1... between the clamper 19 and coating layer holder 8. Then a cutter 22 is moved up, a chopping board part 21 is elevated, and the clamper 19 is drawn as shown by an arrow B to apply an axial cutting tensile force which is smaller than the preliminary tensile force to the fibers 1.... The cutting flaw parts 24... of the respective fibers 1... are bent and the fibers 1 are cut. Consequently, the respective cutting surfaces 25... are not irregular and the coated optical fiber 25 can be connected easily and securely. |
