<p>A pressure or acceleration sensor (4) is mounted on a hammer that imparts non-destructive impact to a material that is to be measured. A signal produced by striking the material with the hammer is used to indicate the period of time of contact of the hammer with the material or a processed signal. The impact drive force is removed by using a signal from the sensor as soon as the hammer comes in contact with the material for the measurement.</p>
