The invention relates to an automatic drive for a door or window installation. The drive motor is controlled by a control device as a function of the instantaneous position of the moved wing. Known drives of this type use control devices which involve a relatively high outlay and which are susceptible to faults, for example mechanical limit switches interacting with stops on the moved wing or displacement potentiometers interacting with a drive belt driven by the drive motor.
