PURPOSE:To constitute the liquid crystal display device at low cost and to improve its productivity by using resin which has high light transmissivity for an optical compensating plate. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal layer 10 for display and the optical compensating layer 11 which has the opposite optical axis twist direction from that of the layer 10 are put one over the other to constitute a two-layered structure, which is sandwiched between a polarizer 121 and an analyzer 122; and coloring caused by the liquid crystal layer 10 for display is compensated by the optical compensating layer 11. The optical compensating layer 11 consists of a resin having high light transmissivity. In this manufacture, stress is applied from outside so that the optical axes 21 and 22 of two top and reverse surfaces of a resin plate 20 have opposite change directions; and the optical axes are twisted by stress double refraction curing. The optical compensating layer 11 is made of resin, so the cost is reduced as compared with a conventional example where a liquid crystal cell is used for the optical compensating layer and the manufacture is attained only by applying the external stress to the resin plate 20. Consequently, the display device can be manufactured in a short time at low cost and the productivity is improved. |
