PURPOSE:To allow part of a binding agent to stick to an imaging element assembly transferred to an intermediate transfer medium positively and thereby make possible the stable recording of a high-quality image even in a material to be transferred with a significant irregularity of surface characteristics by maintaining the temperature of a recording medium above the softening point of a binding agent when the recording medium is separated from the intermediate transfer medium in an intermediate transfer process. CONSTITUTION:A recording medium 1 used consists of a binding agent layer 1b and a distribution layer 1a of an imaging element assembly with transfer properties which change with given light and heat energies, both provided on a base 1c after the formation of a transferred image, the recording medium 1 is allowed to come in contact with an intermediate transfer medium 3, and then these are separated. The temperature of the recording medium 1 when the recording medium 1 is separated from the intermediate transfer medium 3 is maintained above the softening point of a binding agent in an intermediate transfer process which transfers a transferred image to the medium 3. Subsequently, a desired image is formed based on the selective transfer of an imaging element assembly 2 from the recording medium 1. At that time, the imaging element assembly 2 is transferred to the medium 3 with part of a binding agent which constitutes the layer 1b on the imaging element assembly 2.
